$treet Healthy was created during a time of mental and physical anguish. I had to take myself out of the life that I was living and take time in private for myself in order to recover, and it was difficult to be away from all of the action… Whether for personal reasons or due to external circumstances, it can be challenging to take a beat and exist on the sidelines. This piece is about finding support in new ways… recognizing when you’re back, when you’re able. When you’re “street healthy.”

About the Artist: Cyd Gottlieb
Cyd Gottlieb

Cyd Gottlieb is a multidisciplinary artist whose work centers on creative problem-solving through experiential, visual, and interpretive programming methods. Her abstract style, developed during recovery from a spinal cord injury, serves as a medium for processing emotions and bodily sensations. Gottlieb’s imagery explores introspective healing, using layers of paint and mixed media to guide viewers through a visual journey. Her artwork references the twists and turns of everyday life, creating a maze, a dance, a floor plan, a map, or an escape route for others to study and potentially follow.

Now, tapping into the root of why she makes art, Gottlieb dives deeper into intimate survival stories and leans into cultural concepts as she develops a new body of work, which has received direct support from the Ohio Arts Council. Career highlights include a residency fellowship with Penland School of Craft, contributions to texts published by Harvard University Press, solo exhibitions with the Burkholder Project (NE) and Gathered Glass (OH), and group shows across multiple states. Her work is part of Collector’s Corner at the Toledo Museum of Art. A self-taught artist, Gottlieb holds a BA in Hispanic Language and Literatures from Boston University.
